1877- Pietro Barilla opens a bakery for bread and pasta in Parma, Italy. Using a wooden press, he produces 100 pounds of pasta a day.
1910- From artisan to industry: Barilla opens its first factory in via Veneto in Parma, where workers produce 17,600 pounds of pasta a day.
1911- Ettore Vernizzi designs the company’s first trademark. Pietro Barilla's sons, Riccardo and Gualterio, take over the family business.
1936- On the eve of World War II, Barilla’s six presses and 700 workers produce 175,000 pounds of pasta and 33,000 pounds of bread a day.
