BevandeGuest Arrival/Cocktails
A larger dinner party calls for a variety of beverages to appeal to various palates. However, having a full bar can get expensive. To simplify your evening, we recommend selecting a couple of fun specialty mixed drinks to serve as guests arrive for your dinner party. To get the party started, we found a couple of great Italian-themed drink recipes that are created with Italian liquors and sparkling wine and fresh juices from www.cocktail.com.
Venticello di Carnevale
1 oz gold rum 1 oz Campari 2 oz lemon juice 2 oz lime juice grenadine COMBINE all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice.
SHAKE, strain into a highball glass, garnish with twist of lemon and lime on the rim.
Italian Embrace 1 pint strawberries 200 ml limoncello 750 ml Prosecco or sparkling white wine
WASH and hull strawberries.
PUREE in a blender or food processor until smooth.
PASSthrough a sieve, if liked. Add limoncello and stir.
CHILL in refrigerator at least one hour.
POUR 2 oz chilled strawberry purée into a champagne flute and then top with chilled sparkling wine.
Dinner Wines
A pasta party calls for a nice selection of wines. The menu Chef Boni prepared for this party calls for a nice mix of red and white wines from various regions of Italy to accompany his regional pasta recipes. We called upon Jenni Heim, an Italian wine expert from Sam’s Wine & Spirits in Chicago, Illinois ( www.samswine.com), to assist us in selecting regional Italian wines for our menu. For each of the different dishes, Jenni’s recommendations are:
•Spaghetti alla Puttanesca, Campania - Pipoli Rosato (Aglianico variety) •Lasagne alla Bolognese, Emilia Romagna – Umberto Cesari Sangiovese di Romagna •Rotini con Broccoli, Puglia – Torre Quarto Bottaccia (red) •Farfalle e Pomodorini alla Sorrentina, Campania – Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio •Tortiglioni con Spigola, Scampi e Pomodori Pachino, Sicily - Planeta La Segreta Bianco
Other Have sparkling and still water on hand as an alternative.
